Mr. Byung-Kee SUNG began his career as an in-house patent engineer at SK Hynix Semiconductor (formerly, Hyundai Electronics) in 1994. While working at the company for five years, he has done works related to MPEG-4 Visual standard which is one of the video codec standards. After being qualified as a patent attorney in 2002, he joined Y.P. Lee, Mock & Partners, one of the largest firm in Korea. At the time, on behalf of Samsung Electronics, he drafted patent specifications and prosecuted patent applications in Korea and foreign countries in connection with the industry standards such as H.264 and Blu-ray Disc. In 2005, he joined Moon & Moon International that is the sole Korean consultant/evaluator for MPEG LA, LLC, the world’s leading patent pool administrator. As a chief evaluator for nine years, Mr. Sung established the evaluation criteria and performed patent evaluations for hundreds of patents to determine whether the patents submitted for evaluation are essential to implement industry standards. Based on diverse and in-depth experience in the standard-essential patent field, he gained a reputation as a leading expert in this field at home and abroad.
Mr. Nam-Suk KANG also has much experience in technological standards and standard-essential patents. Mr. Kang joined Moon & Moon International in 2005 and performed patent evaluations for patent pools administered by MPEG LA, LLC, etc. for eleven years. From 2014 to 2015, as a chief evaluator, he directed the evaluation works for standard-essential patents.
Our experts built up rich experiences in various fields including video codec, audio codec, telecommunication (LTE, WiFi, NFC, etc.), digital TV and artificial intelligence (AI).
